Question:
Write a story (of about 300 words) ending with this sentence: "In the end, it wasn't such a bad bargain after all."
Essay:
"Lalalala, what kind of present should I get for my sister?" I said to myself sweetly when heading to Northpoint Shopping Centre to get my younger sister Yinyan a good present for her birthday since that special day for her was coming in a few days. I felt that if I did not get a present for her, that meant that I was apathetic towards her and that I did not take my role as an elder sibling seriously.
As I entered the shopping centre, I kept contemplating about all the presents Yinyan had been receiving for the past three years. These included a Sailor Moon keychain, a picture frame made from seashells as well as a floral arrangement specially made by me. I had the slightest inkling that I could get a present of a similar value from a gift shop. However, I felt that my sister wanted something different this time. Hence, I went into Popular Bookstore to check out a suitable book for her to read. Just as I entered the store, I saw someone at an attractive-looking booth advertising for a book that was published only recently. "Hmm, let me have a look," I thought as visions of my sister thoroughly enjoying the new book swam around my head.
When I took a closer look at the booth, I saw numerous books stacked in a neat arrangement on the table, and a bespectacled man hold a book titled "The Legend of Eris, The Dwarf Planet." "Wow, this book sounds so wonderful. But I don't think my sister would like it since she has been abhorring science fiction stories since primary one," I thought. But what I discovered next was the man persuading me to buy the book! With comments such as "It will keep you in suspense throughout the story," and "That story has a plot of novelty," I felt that I had no choice but to buy the book. Therefore, I took it from the man and paid the money to the cashier afterwards.
I reached home with a blue face. Looking at my expression, Yinyan approached me, asking me what was wrong. I passed the book to her and she immediately read the title. Out of the blue, she enjoyed the new-published book instead of showing her hatred towards it. It then dawned on me that her attitude towards science fiction stories had changed, indicating that my visions had come true. In the end, it wasn't such a bad bargain after all.
